This album is curated from work produced during a year-long, subscriber-supported solo recording series I conducted from March 2020 through March 2021, via Bandcamp. The idea was to open up the process of creating solo work, both in terms of duration (and with that, experimentation and discovery), as well as community, to have a sense that I wasn’t just alone in my home studio, but somehow also connecting throughout the process. I hadn’t intended for this to be a pandemic project. In fact, the planning had begun months before I launched the series in February of 2020, and then…you know the rest. As things turned out, aside from having a family with two boys to care for, this project and the support of my subscribers sustained me during that year, materially and spiritually. I am so grateful. And I can only hope that the music will, in turn, offer you some kind of sustenance.

“I am tempted to call Rocket Love my favorite solo bass recording of all time. At a minimum, it is the most varied and fun.” - PopMatters

“A very fine album all-around, and one that captures Crump's multifaceted aesthetic wonderfully.” - AllAboutJazz

“Crump's ability to do more with less is on full display: well-placed, deliberate notes that convey a rich emotional depth without the need for garrulity.”- AllAboutJazz

“The title track alone speaks volumes”- AllAboutJazz

“solo acoustic bass that can be a universe all of its own, that's Rocket Love” - Marlbank

“Crump generates wonderful variety in a genre that can seem ponderous or tedious in lesser hands.” - PopMatters
